routine cow maintenance day with an adios amigo

Matt chose today as 'Routine Cow Maintenance day' because both Eli and Ry are off school (on that note, if you are a Veteran- Thank you so much for your bravery in serving our country.  May God Bless and keep you and your family).
The routine cow maintenance was happening down at the cow barn and let me just say, It was not a good day if you were a bull calf- An extra step was added to your 'maintenance'.  While you may have stepped into the calf squeeze a bull you were being sent out as a steer....Adios' Amigo if ya know what I mean.
I was impressed how organized the boys were when they were working with the calves- They have done this several times before but this is the first time I have ever watched them...The steps went as follows:

• Wormer
• Vaccinated
• Branded (bleh...it smells like burning hair and rotten steak)
• Tagged
• Castrated  

Both Ellie and Oklie came down to watch the boys with me....Oklie was confined to the truck because she kept trying to herd the cows...She missed the memo that she is only 10 pounds and the calves are over 100.  Elle's hung out mostly with me- watching and taking it all in.

A great morning with Elle's and the boys- now off to finish up the Elk stew for dinner!!
